Our Values and Commitments

We believe your contact and dealings with us should always be a positive and professional experience. All enquiries are handled as quickly as possible, often by return. All work we do for you will be carried out to the highest level of quality we can achieve at the service level you have selected, and usually we will do that little bit more to avoid disappointment.

We will never attempt to sell you the expensive option if it is not required. For example, some of our competitors offer a 'one size fits all' scanning service, usually providing you with the highest scan resolution available. If you plan only to view the images on a computer screen or produce some 6 x 4 prints, then that's the last thing you need - a huge percentage of the high resolution pixels have to be 'lost' and the gaps patched together, often resulting in poor quality results.

We believe that you, the customer, should be able to choose what you want in order to provide the best results for you. If you aren't sure we will always help you to decide. If we see that the results could be less than satisfactory, we will contact you and if necessary send you samples by email in order to ensure we provide what you want.

Our prices are the lowest consistent with spending that extra bit of time on your images. You will find cheaper, but you may find turn-around time is in weeks rather than days, or images are not rotated and cropped or checked in Photoshop. You will find more expensive, especially where companies have expensive overheads. We work from a scanning lab we've built at home, so our overheads are low.

If for any reason you are unhappy with the results, we will either do the job again free of charge, or refund you in full. And the only question asked will be, "Please tell us why so we can improve our processes and stop this happening again."

The Company

SLX Photographic is a small, family run business dedicated to providing you with a high quality service in the scanning of 35mm negatives and slides, APS films, or photo prints.

The company is part of a limited company, SLX Consulting Ltd., set up by the owner, director and senior consultant Peter Short in 1998, which continued the business of an earlier sole tradership company, SLX Consulting. Peter's wife is Company Secretary and a Director, and both sons Patrick and Richard lend their expertise when required.

Initially SLX concentrated on Business and Management Consultancy, thus the company name. Over time the business has changed considerably to one specialising in both Photographic Services as well as IT / Web Services .

Photographic expertise comes from a lifetime of involvement in photography as a hobby, whilst IT and Internet expertise comes from a long career from 1967 to 1996 with a leading multinational computer company. In particular Peter undertook to convert a huge collection of 35mm negatives and slides to digital format, allowing him over a period of 10+ years to gain a high level of skill in the scanning of photographs and the editing of the resulting images.

SLX Online - We used to run an on-line shopping site at this address, but the URL now diverts to the main company site. We do however use the brand SLX Online for our web hosting services.
