Film Format Information

There are many film formats, some we are able to process, others we cannot. Below you will find information about the formats we can process, and any limitations we may have when scanning these formats. There is a comprehensive summary of film formats in Wikipedia.

35mm (135) Format
Standard 35mm Filmstrip   Standard 35mm filmstrip with 36mm x 24mm frames. We can process strips up to 6 frames in length. The frame number is printed on the top and/or bottom of the frame, if you specify only certain frames then choose the number nearest to the centre of the frame (which may be a whole number or a number suffixed with the letter 'A'.

35mm Slide   Standard 35mm slide in a 2" x 2" mount. The frame size (black area) is usually about 34mm x 23mm, although it does vary by manufacturer and slide age.
110 "Instamatic" Format
110 Filmstrip   110 filmstrip with 13mm x 17mm frames. Our equipment is not specifically designed for this format, but we can scan them for you. Use the 35mm prices and 4000 dpi due to the small size of the negative.

110 Slide   110 slides can be mounted in 2" x 2" mounts. The viewable frame size is about 12mm x 16mm. Again use 35mm prices and 4000 dpi.

The quality possible from 110 film is generally quite low.
APS - Advanced Photo System
APS Cassette   APS cassettes typically contain 15, 25, or 40 frames. Make sure the APS cassettes have been developed (the rectangle on the top of the cassette is selected). All frames with image data are scanned. Scans from APS film tend to be quite grainy.
126 "Instamatic" Format
126 Filmstrip   126 films contain 28mm x 28mm frames. The frame number is printed at the bottom of the frame. 126 film is 35mm wide and can therefore be scanned as if it were 35mm film. The images will however be cropped to a frame size of a 35mm film - see 126 slides below. Use 35mm prices.

126 Slide   126 slides can be mounted in 2" x 2" mounts. The viewable area is about 26.5mm x 26.5mm. Because the aperture of the scanner is for 35mm film (36.8mm x 25.1mm) about 1.45mm will be cropped from the top and bottom of these slides. Move your mouse over the picture to see the area that will be removed (red). Use 35mm prices.
127 Format
127 Slide   127 "Super Slides" can also be mounted in a 2" x 2" mount with a viewable area of about 40mm x 40mm. A large part of the image cannot be scanned due to the aperture of the scanner. Move your mouse over the picture to see the area that is removed - we will rotate the slide in the scanner to obtain the best picture content, e.g. so we don't cut off heads and feet if possible! Use 35mm prices.
120 Medium Format
6x6cm Transparency or Negative   There is a range of frame sizes within the 120 medium format - 6 x 4.5 cm, 6 x 6 cm, 6 x 7 cm, 6 x 8 cm, and 6 x 9 cm. The 6 x 6 cm size shown here has a frame size of 56 mm x 56 mm.

6x6cm Slide   Medium format 6x6cm slides come in a 70mm x 70mm mount. We can scan these slides and other medium format slides, however they need to be removed from the mount in order to fit them into the scanning frame..
